GRE Overview

The GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) is a standardized test used by graduate schools to evaluate applicants’ readiness for advanced academic study. It is widely required by universities in the United States and other countries for master’s and doctoral programs. The GRE assesses skills in Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing, helping universities compare candidates from different academic backgrounds.

GRE Test Structure

The GRE General Test includes three main sections:

1. Verbal Reasoning

  • Measures reading comprehension and critical reasoning.

  • Includes passages and vocabulary-based questions.

2. Quantitative Reasoning

  • Tests math skills, problem-solving, and data analysis.

  • Covers arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and basic statistics.

3. Analytical Writing

  • Requires writing two essays:

    • Issue Task

    • Argument Task

GRE Subject Tests

In addition to the GRE General Test, ETS offers seven GRE Subject Tests for students who want to demonstrate their knowledge in specific academic areas. The available subject tests include Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Literature in English, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology. Each subject test has a duration of 170 minutes. Please note that fees may change from time to time, so it is recommended to check the official ETS website for the latest fee details.
